Silent but Deadly

I'm known to y'all as a spider; it's my cognomen,

I possess chelicerae, mandibles, eight legs, and an abdomen.

I'm related most closely to scorpions; they have quite a sting,

I absolutely adore my web; mostly made for insects with wings!

I'm a meat lover; with the exception of my jumping friend,

I need tropical and temperate land to survive; it also helps me inter-blend.

My strong silk has been used to create the next generation of bullet-proof vests,

All my kinds have fangs; which we use to eat your pests!

A few of us like hibernating, usually under leaves or bark of trees,

I live everywhere; except for Antarctica, rivers, oceans and seas.

Araneae is my scientific name; I also eat bees!
